Summer Projects

I’ve always liked to tinker with things a bit, but never really did anything more than pull things apart to see how they worked. Then last summer I realized two things when I had to build myself a computer for the first time (which was a long time dream of mine). First of all, I really like working with my hands like that and the feeling of satisfaction you get when you are done and it works is AWESOME. Second, with the right tools and instructions you can do anything. The only computer parts I had ever installed myself before I built an entire computer was RAM. RAM is about has hard to install in a computer as bread is to install in a toaster. You just push it down. So I went from that to building the whole computer  and it was awesome, fun, and DO ABLE. I realized that I no longer could say “I’d love to tackle this project, but I’ve never done anything like this and I don’t have the skills for it”. The internet has made this largely irrelevant. To a degree of course. I wouldn’t suggest you go work on jet engines or anything like that.

So earlier this year I decided that I should have a cool, hands on project to work on. I’d like to learn some woodworking so I wanted something that would incorporate that. Since I’ve always wanted to build one, I thought it would be cool if I made a trebuchet. The problem with that is I have nowhere to put a trebuchet. Not that I was going to build a full size one, but I did want one that  was a few feet tall and I don’t have the room for that. So this wasn’t going to be very practical. This, combined with the fact that I’m going to be playing a lot more paintball this summer and playing a lot more seriously lead me to choosing this as my new project:

Hi There, Long Time No See!

Yeah, it has been a while. I kinda suck at updating things, I know. If it makes you feel any better I don’t just ignore my Tumblr, you should see how infrequent the entries in my journal are. So don’t worry, it isn’t you, it’s me.

In all seriousness though, things have been SUPER busy. Classes just finished so of course I had to deal with all my final essays and assignments and all that jazz. It was so hard to stay motivated to do those assignments because I knew my marks didn’t matter so much anymore because they won’t be looked at for my teacher’s college applications; only the marks that were final when I submitted my application in December are counted. So all I had to do was pass. I managed it however, and pulled off some pretty good grades. I’m not totally out of the woods yet though, because I have one exam to still write. An exam worth 50% of my grade. That is a scary prospect but hey, what can I do? I just have to study my ass off.

In more fun news, I’ve been accepted to every Teacher’s College that I’ve heard back from including OISE which is the most prestigious of them all. So I’m pretty excited to know I’ll be going there next year. Then hopefully soon after that I will have a job! YAY FOR HAVING A REAL INCOME.

As a gift to myself I decided to finally invest in something I’ve really wanted for a good while-paintball equipment! Now I won’t have to use crummy rental equipment any more! I’ve actually already got everything, except my actually paintball marker (the technical term for the “gun”) but that should be here soon. At least it better be because Canada Post said it would be here 3 days ago. I’m going to chalk up its late arrival to them being super busy with Easter. It is driving me crazy though because I keep waiting to hear the delivery truck pull up and or the doorbell ring so I can sign for it. Oh well, all in due time! Except pictures of all my gear once the gun finally gets here!

Thus is hilarious. You have got to love some of the things that kids write or say.
